SiteLock Work Party at Larry’s Garage (Feb. 8th, 2014) – Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque
Work Party at Larry’s Garage (Feb. 8th, 2014)

Larry’s work party started after the Tin Lizzies breakfast at Mimi’s Cafe.  There was a wide variety of projects this day.

“Katy”, the 1926 coupe named by Linda and formerly owned by our late club president Dean Van Doren, was on Larry’s lift being checked and adjusted.  Linda wanted to ensure that it was in good working order in preparation for sale.  Vernon worked on Katy and later drove it back to it’s storage location.

Dave Ferro brought a spare tire for his depot hack with a petrified tire.  He brought a new tire and tube to replace the old one.  The tire was so hard that the easiest way to remove it was to cut if off.  With some assistance from fellow club members, Dave successfully installed the new tire and now has a viable spare!

Dave Merewether brought a wheel whose hub needed shimming.  Larry has a wide range of shim stock and Dave was looking for just the right thickness to remove the excess play.

Mark repaired the insulation on a magneto field coil with some red enamel electrical insulating paint that Larry keeps in stock.

Bob Jackson brought five coils from his 1925 touring car. Initially, only one coil worked well and the other four functioned poorly or not at all when tried on the coil tester.  With Larry’s help , and a set of new point, all of the coils functioned, although Larry recommended replacing the old points with new ones from Langs.

For the first time, the club members got a chance to see Bill and Donna Hansen’s recent acquisition, a stunning 1924 touring car that came from Alabama.  The car had been restored to show condition approximately 30 years ago, and trailered to events since then.  Bill and Donna want to enjoy the car and actually drive it, so basic maintenance items, like wheel bearing lubrication and checking the rear differential oil levels were in order.  To help improve lubrication, Bill had bought a magneto oiler and that was installed at this work party.  Larry also got a chance to drive this finely restored car and he thought it was a very smooth and well running touring car!

Thank you Larry for a great work party!
