SiteLock Work Party at Larry’s Garage (May 12, 2014) – Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque
Work Party at Larry’s Garage (May 12, 2014)

Among the Tin Lizzie members in attendance this Monday was Ethan Ortega (he works on Saturdays – the usual work party day).  Ethan is the son of Portales members Orlando and Melody Ortega.  Ethan had moved to the Corrales area recently and has a job in the nearby town of Bernalillo.

Michael Housholder brought his new acquisition, a 1924 Model T pickup truck purchased in Yuma, AZ.  This Model T hadn’t been driven in at least two years and Michael was going through the electrical and fuel systems in preparation to start it.  Among the first things he and Larry discovered was that none of the coils were working correctly.  Michael and Bob Ross rebuilt some of the coils with new capacitors.  Luckily, Michael’s mother, Betty, had coils left over from her 1921 coupe that had been converted to a distributor system.  Between the coils repaired and the ones replaced, this aspect of the electrical system is now in good shape.

Kirk Peterson was busy mounting two new Firestone tires for his 1924 Model T coupe “Buster”.

Larry, Ethan, and Bruce were working on Bruce’s 1925 Tudor engine rebuilding project.  Ethan got a lesson on pouring new rod and cap babbitt as well as boring the matched rods and caps on the milling machine.  This is the same engine that had experienced a catastrophic transmission failure when it threw a magnet trough the hogs head!  The engine is making fine progress and should be back on the road again soon.

Thank you Larry for a productive and educational work party!
