SiteLock Work Party at Larry’s Garage (April 27, 2013) – Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque
Work Party at Larry’s Garage (April 27, 2013)

This work party was focused on preparing cars for the upcoming Portales tour.  Mark brought wheels to tighten the spokes by introducing copper shims.  As the spokes weren’t too loose, the 0.010″ thick shims worked well.  Unfortunately, the spoke jack did cause indentations and chipping of the paint so the spokes had to be repainted later.

Mike Housholder, was optimizing the ignition system on “Pete”, the family’s 1923 pickup truck.  The repairs included work on the generator and tweaking the coils.

Paul was preparing to remount the doors on his 1920 touring car with the assistance of John Hayne.  After some shimming and adjustments, the doors looked fabulous.

Bob had noticed that his magneto stopped working and the engine had to be removed to look into the magneto failure.  The engine was removed and disassembled.  Once the hogs head was removed, Bob and Larry discovered that a tripple gear bushing had disintegrated and chunks of the broken bushing had damaged the field coils and other parts.  Even though the transmission repairs, the engine, which had be rebuilt by a previous owner, was in very good condition.

Bob and Larry worked on the transmission rebuild the following week and it was ready for reinstallation by the time of the work party the following week.

Thanks Larry for hosting the work party and helping so many members prepare their cars for the Portales tour!
